Good morning!
So, the first BCS rankings came out last weekend, and I for one, was shocked. Oklahoma #1 in the BCS standings???? Are you kidding me? I'm not knocking the Sooners; they are a very good Big 12 team, but to rank them number one is absurd. Oregon is the #1 team in the AP, and they rightfully should be so in the BCS. The Sooners were sixth in the AP and defeated Iowa State 52-0 in Norman...so why were they moved five spots up? Utah punked the Cyclones by 41 points in Ames a couple of weeks ago, and they DROPPED a spot in the polls. Why is OU any different?
This weekend in college football provides numerous marquee matchups. Here's a quick list of the bigtime games on Saturday:
(16) Nebraska @ (14) Oklahoma St., 2:30PM on KSFY
(13) Wisconsin @ (15) Iowa, 2:30PM on KCAU
(6) LSU @ (4) Auburn, 2:30PM on CBS
(1) Oklahoma @ (11) Missouri, 7PM on ABC
I think NU will have its hands full with Oklahoma State. I picked the Cowboys by 10 points, simply because I think the Huskers still haven't fully gotten over their loss to Texas last Saturday. In terms of Wisconsin/Iowa, thankfully this game is in Iowa City. This is a trap game for the Badgers, as we saw what happened to the Gamecocks after they beat Alabama. If Stanzi & Co. play well, and the defense dominates the Badgers offense as they did against Michigan, Iowa has a great chance to win this game.
For LSU/Auburn, I am guaranteeing a Tigers victory! :) Seriously, though, I am not convinced about LSU. Les Miles is the luckiest person on this planet, as LSU should have lost to Tennessee. Plus, the Tigers victory over Florida in Gainesville is a little less concrete since Mississippi State also beat the Gators in Gainesville. I look for Auburn to dominate this game.
Finally, OU/Missouri. OU is NOT the #1 team in college football. Not even close. Missouri has a huge statement game if they want to be taken seriously in the Big 12 (and in college football, in general). A win in Columbia against the Sooners will push Mizzou into the top 10 and into a big-time matchup against the Huskers. It will be a close game, but I think OU will pull out the win late in the 4th quarter. Look for Mizzou to have an incredible home-field advantage, though. That crowd will be rocking!
